    Golden Badge of the NSDAP

    Hello,
a german friend of mine, told me his greatgrandfather (a former SS member) buried his golden badge of the nsdap in his garden after the war.
does somebody know maybe the value of this badge, is it worth to talk to the new owner of the house and start to dig around in the garden???
    Many thanks
    Peter

The Badge would probally be greatly damaged by being buried.the value depends on the size of the badge 25mm or 30mm and to some extent the notiarity of the original owner.A nice 25mm ,the least valuable, bring now close to $1000.this badge would be less ,value depending on how much it is damaged.Should not be hard to find, if there, with a metal detector.

Yes, a metal detector would do it. That would be an "interesting hunt"
to say the least. If you were to find it, the best thing to do would be to soak it in olive oil and gently wipe it clean several times. The amount of acid in the soil will deternine how much damage will occur. Good luck and let us know if you do find it.

After the war a lot of German Vets, especially the SS, went to great lengths to hide their past for fear of being "discovered." A friend of mine back in the late 70's found an SS tunic which had been thrown away in the trash!
Turns out it belonged to the building's janitor.
