    Not good IMO.

      Hi Ralph:

This is not a good one, sorry. For comparison, here's the front of mine (I don't have a reverse photo I can post at the moment). Note the differences in the NSDAP letter thickness, the quills in the eagle's feathers...and mine is a well-worn example, which has lost some of its definition.

I think with that pin plate the badge is a repro?

Yes, as a general rule, but I was strictly evaluating the badge itself.

JMHO 99.9% of the time when that pin plate is on a badge ...the badge is a repro.

There's more wrong with this badge other than the pin plate.

                Another one to compare

No expert but, to me, the badge that started this thread looks different : very deep detail to feathering with ridge/rim around edge of feathers, square knees, head detail & pin mouting are also different

Hi guys. Thank you for the appraisal . Back to the dealer it goes then. Where would us novice collectors be without your expertise? Thanks again. You guys saved me a lot of cash.

                    @ Michael:

I agree, but, I actually have encountered real tinnies with incorrect/modern replacement pins, so there is that .01%
chance...but that's definitely not the case with this one.

                    @ JC:

Nice original!! Real examples of the solid version Nurnberg 33-01 have a soldered-in vertical pin, recessed in a channel, exactly like the one you've posted. Mine is missing the pin, but the channel's present, with plenty of solder traces. I won't bother guessing at how many originals lost their pins, but the construction is surprising, given the overall weight of the badge, and the fact that the length of the pin would give the badge a lot of "up & down play" when worn.

                    @ Ralph:

Just out of curiosity, what was the asking price on this one?

                    Best,

                    Andre

This is a difficult one. usually a coffin plate is a tell-tale sign of an old repro. Most modern fakers are now clever to copy the soldering more closely. It will be interesting to have a better photo of the badge being discussed and comparing it with good examples. There are some slight differences but a bigger closeup with a well lit image will be good.

Looking closely to the details of towers , the third tower from the right is different from the two posted originals . Does that ring a bell? . Agree back pin is not typical for this badge.

                            Hi Ralph,
Actually I dont find it offensive at all & I think the crisp/sharp detail is actually better than on most RPTs 33 we see but the design and hardware are different
than what I am familiar with...

Hi All. Thank you so much for all your responses. I have returned the badge to the dealer and have received a full refund (luckily). Funny though, I was searching good old Google pictures the other night, and found the exact same badge for $11
Sometimes it doesn't pay to be impulsive. Thanks again.Ralph
