Advice please- Handwerk badge and Seefahrt ist Not

I was wondering if anyone could provide any information on a red enamelled tinnie bearing the inscription "Deine Hand Dem Handwerk" or " Your hand the handicraft" with shaking hands with a swastika partially obscured in the background. Its very attractive but I would like to know more about it and how it was awarded or why it owuld be purchased by the recipient.

Also I possess a Seefahrt ist Not badge which is very light in weight, I am not sure if it is made of aluminium or some kind of plastic. I had always assumed that they were made of a heavier metal. Which leads to me question its authenticity even though I know tinnies were made from wood, plastic and leather etc Does anyone know if this was manufactured in different materials of differing weights?

    Tinnie questions

I am at the office, so I do not have my reference in front of me, but they are both common tinnies - I can get you the information you are asking about on the red enamled handshake tinnie tomorrow; but I imagine one of our members will beat me to it as we have some extraordinary folks here.... The Seefahrt ist Not tinnie has been repro'd, but that doesn't mean yours is a fake. My pieces are of aluminum or aluminum alloy. Post a picture if you can, obverse and reverse so that we can see the pin, manufacturer, etc.

Kevin is right the Seefahrt ist Not tinnie was made of a aluminum type metal and by more then one maker. The Handwork tinnie was sold or given out most offen at trade shows. It was also produced in stamped metal. I would guess these enamel ones were for larger donations. I have seen referances connecting it to the WHW org. Hope this helps, I'm sure Kevin can come up with more indepth information on this for us.

I will try to post a picture soon, unfortunately I am not an association member so I may encounter problems. Thanks to everyone for there help. I was also interested in the markings on the rear of the Handwerk badge, the round configuration DÄ at the top with G on the left with B on the right. I read on a website that this may be attributed to Gustav Bremer, a manufacturer I am unfamiliar with, can anyone give this any credence.

            Tinnies and pics

Agree with Yancy on his discription of the Handwerk tinnie... I don't have any additional information on that one, but I can post a picture.

The "Seefahrt ist not. Tag Der Deutsche Seefahrt" is:
Sea travel is necessary. German Sea travel day. May 25-26, 1935. Cast solid aluminum badge. ~ 1.61" X 1.82" in size. From Vol 1 of tinnies of the third reich, the foxhole.

Richard can you remember the wedsite you got your information from concerning maker of Hanbwerk tinnie from the M9 list I have the only G.B. I see is Gustav Brehner M9/4 if he is the same one this firm seems to be the only one that made this badge as all the ones I have looked have had the same hallmark. Also can you tell me which maker produced your Seefahrt tinnie. Kevin do you have this Handwerk badge inhand as the damage on it seems very familiar. The one I have is bronze with red enamel no trace of silver plating at all.

                  Handwerk

Actually, I copied that pick off of the net - one of my friends has one of those in his collection, however.

There are 3 or 4 of them on the Manion's auction now - I believe some of them show the reverse also.

                        Mr Noble,

The website was a slightly nefarious source of information, I got it from here:
                        http://www.epier.com/stores/Dans_Mil...ID=8616&page=1

You are defintely correct in that it is infact Gustav Brehner, that ties up well. There must of been a typo made on the site above. My Seefarht tinnies is maker marked Paul Schulze & Co of Lubeck, it is light grey in appearence and very light in weight. The pin attachment looks okay.

Well that makes four different makers for the Seefahrt tinnie
my two are M9/42 Fritz Zimmermann, Stuttgart and M9/149
                          Willy Annetsberger, München

My Seefahrt tinnie is marked Ziemer & So"hne, Oberstein/Nahe. Made from aluminum. My Handwerk enameled tinnie has the same maker's mark as discussed in this thread with the addition of Ges. Gesch. on the pin attachment plate. It is a silver color but appears to be a brass core as the points of wear show a copper color coming through. James, I think yours must have all the plating worn off.
