    1929 Nurnberg Award for Opinions?

Before I do anything with the piece I would very much appreciate some learned opinions!

This silver 1929 Nurnberg Rally non-portable award is quite tarnished and rather dirty. I have tried to take good photos, but if there is anything that you want to see please just let me know.

The reverse is not "800" marked. However, I had the plaque tested by a friend who is a jeweler. I was informed that the piece is indeed silver. The content was not as high as sterling silver (.925). The jeweler offered the opinion that the silver content was likely 800.

I would be very grateful for your opinions.

    Many thanks!

              Hello Bill.

I'm not a fan of this but will need to take my plaque out to inspect and compare. The pebbling seems rather crude and the same seems cast rather than stamped. It could be down to the corrosion or resolution of the photos.

Yes, I agree that this '29 RPT Commemorative Medallion looks good to me, too, Bill...until I read your note that:

"The reverse is not "800" marked. However, I had the plaque tested by a friend who is a jeweler. I was informed that the piece is indeed silver. The content was not as high as sterling silver (.925). The jeweler offered the opinion that the silver content was likely 800."

I have to ask myself why a jeweler like Ferdinand Hoffstätter would have created a piece like this in .800 solid silver and not marked it accordingly? I have no answer for this question...!

Below shows an example from Tom, notice the clear, super crisp details of the towers in which the windows show good definition. The U of Nuremberg has a clear umlaut being shown. Also note the very sloppy lines below the word Nuremberg. Claws and feather detail are not well made. Compare this to the one being discussed. My feeling is that this is a cast from an original.

This one is from Moore-Grant. Also note the clear, crisp detailing. More close-up shots here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...1&d=1495100188

details on the 1st piece look terrible. It looks cast?

I have to agree with Mil. Execution looks very crude and lacking in detail especially in the buildings and the pebbling. The aging also doesn't look right.

Bill, what is interesting is that the O in Hoffstätter is incomplete as is the case in many of these plaques.

                              Richard...
Yes, I've noticed that, making it look like the letters are "Hc" rather than "Ho".
Since it seems to have been done that way on plaques that are regarded as originals, I suppose that it was either a die flaw or a decision by the manufacturer to make the name "stylized" in a sense?
                              Curious.
