Just looking for any information on this pin that I picked up 25 years ago. I am not even sure if it is a reproduction or if it not something from the US 45th Infantry. There are no markings on it anywhere and no one seems to know anything.

The pin and catch appear to be a typical American set-up from the WW1 thru the 1920’s or so timeframe. However, I don’t know anything about your item as i’ve Never seen one like this.Comment

Its very hard to get something like this to a certain time period..
Yes the pin set up could have been US made but findings such as catches were sold/exported by the kilo to Western Europe, and some just outright copied!
So could have been a teens/20s good luck piece,, or from the early 45th [although I don't think so] or even a 3rd reich piece.. So hard to say,,really could be anything.. Some of these pieces you just have to have some faith in!
To show some of the confusion on early Swas pieces or martial pieces .. There is a famous, popular German 'Gold for Iron' ring made at the very beginning of WW1. For Germany, in German, having an Iron Cross to the front,,,but made in New York!Comment
