Hello jmb, this one is a stumper. I have NEVER seen a party badge with two outer rings. It looks old and the pin looks right but that proves nothing. The angled shot makes it look like the enamel covers the lettering which is not correct. That could just be the photo. Early on, there were a LOT of companies making these and lots of them were unmarked like this one. It just really bothers me that it has that double outer ring. I've looked at a LOT and I own about a hundred of them presently but I've never seen this before. If it didn't have this feature, I would call this an early pre transitional oddity. If you are thinking of purchasing it, I would find another one that has no questions. If you own it already, I wouldn't throw it away. Go post it at Jo Rivett's site - Parteiabzeichen.ch You will get a definite answer there that you can count on. Sorry I can't help any more than this.

      Hi Eric,

      thank you for your reply.
The enamel doesn't cover the lettering.
Like you I have never seen or found in the archives any badge with two outer rings, could it be original or fake.

This badge was in a box with several other items not in good condition and all very common but all original for sure.

I think it has a chance of being real, but my gut says no. I was told by a collector here a while back that the more reasons you have to come up with to justify something being real, the less chance it has of being real. That plus, I try to always follow my initial gut reaction on these things. When it's real, it just feels real. All that said, I am not an expert. But Jo Rivett is an expert and actually wrote the book on party badges. If you go and post your badge there, you can be certain without a doubt that you will get the correct answer.

I hope it's right for your sake. If so, you have a very rare one. That's for sure.

        Eric

Badge is a fake man, sorry. According to the info I got, it is an English made fake. It has double outlines because it was meant to be part of a fake golden party badge. Apparently it is a widely known reproduction. It was however, outside my area of knowledge. Thanks to Jo Rivett (who sadly has been banned from this site for reasons I cannot speak to) for his expertise and time for sharing this info. Hope it helps.

          Eric
