Have to thank Jo for his verve and research, showing those pictures. Up till then I'd always thought the correct pattern was the RonR's, now looking at both pieces you couldn't mistake them as anything other than different.
Looking through Hüsken 2010 Katalog der Abzeichen, he shows on page 423, five different Volksbund der Deutschen in Ungarn badges, which he lists as members badges, form 1 - 5. Ron's piece is shown as first form, Jo's 3rd form, the other three pictures are so bad, little more than black blobs, they tell you nothing, he's a cheek to print them. Don's piece (Goldenes Ehrenzeichen) is on the following page priced - as collectors price.
One question, do the badges have only the lapel stud on the back or do they have pins as well.

If there is such a thing as a first and second version, then the documented opaque badge with black and gold lettering is the first, as it is documented as such, as well as explaining why there is no "swastika at that time". And the translucent red would be version two. Their flags change as well, so why couldn`t the badges?

The truth so far, is that there is only one documented membership badge for their very short-lived party, and it is the opaque enameled one. There are fakes of this as well, but poorly made and very modern from the 80`s, so easy to spot and not even really made to fool.

I am still of the opinion, though, that they may well be at least one genuine "version" of a translucent badge for their org. I have unfortunately never had one to inspect so can`t be sure, but, those two links that i posted ( link 1 | link 2) are the "version" of a translucent badge(s) that i think stand at least a good chance. The others have all turned out to be fakes.

I can`t show any images from the book i have, as i lent it to someone, but it is this book if anyone was interested. (Only in German) and it contains everything one could possibly wish to know about this organization, as well as many images.

I have only seen them with a buttonhole attachment, but i have only seen 10 or so of them. I also can`t see why there can`t or won`t be badges with normal pin attachments.
