Sports Medal. Award? Souvenir? Olympics?

This came with some WW2 era German militaria. Something to do with winter sports. Is this Third Reich era? If so, what was its purpose?

It's like a St Christopher's medal but for skiers and such. In use then and still today. Usually with cord to hang from your ski jacket or the like.

There are a half dozen or more in this display mount of mine that I have collected over the years. I even have one I got on a piece of clothing I bought in Aspen during a senior high school ski trip in the mid 1960s.
