Just to illustrate the word or function WHW "Opferschießen".

The WinterHilfsWerk (WHW) was a special NS charity organisation. A sponsored shooting

competition called "Opferschießen" worked in that way that you had to pay for every shot and the

money was a donation to the WHW. The prizes for the winning marksmen were donated by local

businessmen.

They started pre 1935 with this Opferschießen which was not related with war victims.

"Opfer" in this sense means a donation.

In the winter period (the "Opferschießen" was always in winter /Winterhilfswerk) the full sum of

all donations in the whole Deutsche Reich brought 606.306,60 RM (Reichsmark).
