After seeing none for a long time, there are currently two Strasburg Cathedral commemorative medals for sale on the E-stand this week. This has prompted my memory of another less often seen Strasburg table medal worthy of mention that commemorates the opening of the Reichsuniversität Straßburg. It opened in 1941,shortly after the liberation of Alsace-Lorraine by Nazi Germany. The regular University of Strasbourg had been moved to Clermont in 1940. The Reichuniversitat Strassburg was previously known as the Kaiser Wilhelm Universitat from 1872 to 1918 prior to being annexed by France.
The table medal is struck from bronze, is 58mm across and can be found in both a plain black leatherette case or a simulated snakeskin case. Both the cathedral medal and the Strassburg table medal are made by B. H. Mayer's Kunstprageanstalt Prorzheim.
