    Eagle Order Breast Star

I picked this up yesterday. It is a shame about the enamel damage, but the 6 pointed star is not too easy to find. How does the enamel damage affect the value?

The enamel damage will affect the value unfortunately, the undamaged example on E-Stand currently is for sale for 5500E, your one will probably not sell for this much but as you say, not that easily found and still highly collectable,

Bob, I hesitated whether or not I should respond to this inquiry and please don't take this offensive, but why would a collector of your capassity need to ask this question? You know how much you paid for the item and it should be easy to go from there, right? How much do you think a damaged piece in this price range would effect the value compared to a mint piece? However it's the answer you received that got me started.

The reference to the cross made by "mrloppit" is definately worth a comment. I was asked about an opinion by the author of the latest DAO-book on the subject of adding a "price-list" to his publication. I strongly suggested not to do that, as you'll not find it in any serious reference book in recent years and it'll not benefit the collectors in any way. He decided to ignore my advice and according to his own words decided to roughly cut and paste the prices from Detlev's price guide.

I've got the 2004 edition and perhaps later additions have been altered, but here goes:
      Neck cross w/o swords 1.100 €/$
      Breast star 2.000 €/$

The publication from this year (2016):
      Neck cross w/o swords 1.800 €/$
      Breast star (w/s) 3.500 €/$
Breast star with swords 4.000 €/$

Why the price from the very author of a price guide have increased with a third in less than a year is an enigma for me, but hey, who am I to ask. The Neck cross he offered here for 1800€ was reduced to 1650€ and then redrawn from sale. But I think Bill Shea is the leader of the pack, +4900$!! (Especially when a similar cross was sold on a German auction site last year for 900€.

Bob, I think the reduction you made with reference to the response you got i fair,
but buyers out the, be vigilant.

      cheers
      Peter

        Peter,

I also hate to ask for evaluation questions. This was a trade deal from a collector who picked it up from his ads. We struggled to find a value with damage to the enamel. He used emedals at $4450.00 for an example sold that has some enamel damage. This was valued slightly lower but I suppose I paid, in cash and trade, about what I am asking. If my price is too high, that will be determined by the buyers, who really set values with their purchase or rejection.

I have most of the Eagle Orders I want and have only bought one set in recent years, and that was a cased sash and 8 point star. It is the set I have always wanted so I just paid the price and do not have to look for another.

I am making a very large purchase, so I am moving out things to raise funds, otherwise I would just keep this as I do not have a 6 point star in my collection. Even though I prefer cased examples, I could live happily with this is a nice frame.

Thank all of you for your help and I appreciate the honest and candid answers to my query. This is what the forum is famous for and I am glad to share my input where I have some expertise.

Bob, you're right, communication is the key and I'm pleased to hear you perceived my comments the way they were intended. This was never about your asked price and every seller can ask what ever he wants. I'm in awe should you have the DAO's you've set out our mind to acquire and I wish you the best of luck finding that minty 6-pointer.

          cheers
          Peter
