Folks, Just putting this pin out there for opinions. Does it look ok. Alot of the gilt has worn off but you still can see some. How early do you think it is? Thanks for any help.

Very interesting, Chris; I've never seen another like it. The pin's design is reminiscent of the Luftwaffe logo, though that came from the mid-1930s. There was a documentary film about the Kämpfzeit released in 1933 titled "Deutschland Erwacht" -- Germany Awakes -- and that year also produced a cigarette card album by the same name. The slogan, "Deutschland erwache" -- Germany awake -- was the title of a poem by Dietrich Eckart written in 1920, which was set to music in 1922 as the SA battle song: "Sturm, Sturm, Sturm, Deutschland Erwache."

I can't tell for sure, but is there something written on one of the swastika arms on the pin's reverse? Perhaps a silver content or a maker's mark ?

      A very nice piece!

In fact, the pin would go well with my cufflinks.

Hello Jo, I don't have a copy of the party badge book (sorry). What is being described in the book about this pin?

Lettering sure looks sloppy, amateurish and a strange "font", if it can even be described as such.

                    Hello All,

The style of the eagle on this pin is the same as appears on the cover of the book "Deutschlands Erwachen - vom Niedergang und Aufstieg des dutschen Volkes 1918 - 1933" by Hans Henning, Freiherr von Grote; published in 1933. Technically, not a cigarette album, but a photo/text documentary type book.

I am not sure if this was the book that Br. James was referring to.

In Jo's book he names the probable production date as being mid 1932-1933, possibly late 1931. He has a picture of this tinnie on p. 222. The slogan "Deutschland Erwacht" was only used for a short time.

                        Hi dan52,

"I am not sure if this was the book that Br. James was referring to."

Sorry but I haven't referred to any book thus far on this thread. The only book referred to here is Jo Rivett's new work on "The Party Badge."

                        Cheers,

                        Br. James
