Sorry to chime in so late but IMO all Gold grade badges were made by
    L. CHR. LAUER and had low numbers.

It is a bronze badge, not gold.

I agree with both you and Ron.

Guess we'll have to leave it in disagreement, friends.

Certainly, the color of the gold grade is more intense that the first specimen that I showed here for identification, so I have serious doubts as to whether is grade gold. Thank you for everything.

As I understand that system, all three grades of the 1st and 2nd Issue SA Sport Badge were created with and without numbers to their reverses; the numbered badges were created as the 'award badges' and were keyed by number to individual award documents, while the unnumbered badges were produced for private sale as additional badges for those entitled to wear them. The SA Military Defense Badge (SA-Wehrabzeichen) was created without reverse numbering in all three grades; this was an example of wartime economy and expedience, and no effort was made to key each badge to an award document. Private sale of these unnumbered badges was also provided for.

The badge you show has been offered now for a long time.

                    I'm not a big fan.
