The TENO Ehrenzeichen - new book by Jo Rivett

Jo has published a new book, the first one in a serie named Exposing Fake Militaria.
Jo disects in his usual direct and precise style - supported by numerous microscope photos - the genuine Honor Award made by Fühner and the fake Black Honor Badge "made by Hensler" on over 130 pages, all in full color. Format 8.5 x 11"
Apart from the badge inquestion the book is a perfect example of the usage of the microscope in our hobby and the immense value of understanding materials, production processes, and construction of badges.

I have a copy of this book and all I can tell is this: If You are interested in learning how to detect the difference between originals and fakes - buy it!

      Kind regards, Peter

You can purchase a copy from B & D publishing, through eBay or through the mighty micro-Jo himself.

Just finished reading Jo's Exposing Fake Militaria - Teno Ehrenzeichen. Well written narrative on the construction and understanding the processes involved in both the Real and Fake award. Loaded up with micro images to back up his assertions , this is a must have for collectors interested in the forensics of badge making. Apparently, this is the first in an ongoing series exposing previous authors short comings in badge authentication and the myths surrounding them. Well done , Jo !

Yes. Excellent book. Currently half way through and a enlightening read. Jo is sorely missed on this forum.

Thanks Jim. Yes at the moment it mostly deals with badges/awards, but as i have always said, it can be applied to anything. The next project will see me support this by examining and authenticating items i have never seen before, know nothing about, have read - and will read - nothing about, yet will be able to conclusively show the reader why it is genuine (or fake). I will most likely be stepping on a few toes again, but am wearing heavy duty boots so no worries about damaging my feet. (in fact i invested in lumberjack boots with spikes on the bottoms, sides and top!)
The bar needs to be raised, eyes need to be pried wide open to the sorry state of affairs in the hobby today.

Cheers for that. I could still pop in and shower certain posters with hail & praise if needed, pat the same show `n drool users on the back, if needed. Although in that Dept. i fear that i am outweighed 1000-1 here, so will probably crawl back into my hole and stay out of harms way

                            Absolutely Riveting Reading

I just read this wonderful book -- full of facts, & not a shred of fancy! You don't have to be interested in TeNo Awards (in fact I didn't even know what one was before I read this -- I thought it was that show Kanye West had hijacked from Taylor Swift) to find the microscope studies of Mr. Rivett fascinating and educational. Though I must admit that after this eye-opening, I am quite worried about whether the majority of artifacts trading hands are out-and-out fakes. Definitely get a copy and decide for yourself.
