    Gpb 6933

As shown in the book For Fuhrer and Fatherland, Political & Civil Award of the Third Reich by LTC John R Angolia.

Just listed on Jamie Cross update. Too rich for me but I have the book and was interesed to see it for sale.

Your note caught my eye so I visited Jamie Cross' website, looking for an offering for the GPB bearing #6933. All I could find was on his GPB background page where he shows the reverse of a number of GPBs. The reverse surface of #6933 appears there, but it does not meet the standards of genuine GPBs, IMO. Indeed, I was surprised to see it there; Jamie is usually more fastidious than that. This piece also does not appear to be for sale, and the obverse of this badge is not identified as being shown, so one can't tell whether it's supposed to be a large or small badge.

Have to say I'm not fond of that back - the numbers or the maker's mark. Just under the maker's mark you can also see what appears to be where the plating has lifted and peeled off, but then the whole thing replated, except fire gilt doesn't lift - it just wears down. The front wreath looks replated as well, or perhaps cast. Enamel disk looks okay. Impossible to tell not in hand.

      It's listed at £1,750. - http://www.thirdreichmedals.com/

The roundel looks pretty good, but not the base.

Claim to fame: "... the actual badge itself is shown in the book "For Fuhrer and Fatherland, Political & Civil Award of the Third Reich" by LTC John R Angolia on page 393, where it is attributed to the Michael Xilas museum collection.".

I should have mentioned it was listed on his What's New area.

Thanks for the further reference to Jamie's site, Reichenberg. I certainly agree with Stephen's detailed assessment of this piece, and reading Jamie's description brings further questions to my mind, especially where he says this piece has "a factory conversion pin fixing" ... whatever that means?!?! The piece obviously has a jeweler-mounted pin on it, though no evidence of the original military pin or pin plate having fallen away.

This is surely not a piece that I would want in my collection.

Odd thing happened - I linked directly to the photos in my post so we could see them without hunting around the site and they simply disappeared. One minute there, the next - gone.

When we discuss and show badges for educational purposes, that is clearly an allowed "fair use" exemption to copyright laws. Did a moderator take them down or did the source change and break the URL?

Thanks for the update, Stephen. I prefer to believe that Jamie realized the error and acted quickly to correct it. Good news and, if that is the way it went, then encouraging that an internationally well-known TR dealer was immediately responsive.

                Cheers,

Interesting--there are more photos on JC's site. IMO that's not Röhm's signature (described as such on the site), and the loose cover doesn't go with a 1932 vintage Party book. Not to say that the set is not original--the paperwork looks fine, but the descriptions are off.

I agree with Erich. There are two different sections of this membership book that appear to be signed "Röhm," though neither signature favorably compares with known examples of his autograph.

That said, page 9 appears to have been signed by Wilhelm Murr, Gauleiter of Württemberg-Hohenzollern (the book's holder lived in Karlsruhe, a major city in that Gau), and Murr signed it at the place at which the local Ortsgruppenleiter normally signed -- and the seal of the Gau is also affixed! Very unusual to have a membership book processed through the Gauleitung Office instead of the Ortsgruppen Office!
