The NSDAP pin appears original, although some people might not like it. It is made before 1934, and so has no RZM, and has the oval "O" in the words. Later ones were all RZM'ed and had round "O"s. Some early makers also didn't put "stippling" or raised dots behind the red enamel - later ones all had them. Plus the swastika "floats" in the white enamel and doesn't touch the inside edges of the border as all later ones do. Like I said, some people see these as signs of a fake, but actually early ones could be like this. I think yours looks good, but you may hear other opinions.

Value? About $50.

The DRL Reichssportabzeichen (National Sports Badge) is a very nice original bronze grade badge IMO, value $30/$35. As to the party badge even though it's pre-RZM the quality of the enamel and fonts work just isn't what I would expect to see in these party badges just my opinion.

Stephen, you pointed out the giveaways of a fake i.e. oval o:s and swastika, but what about the space between the letters L and S on pre-34 manufacture?

Thanks guys; in reviewing this post I noticed some weird discoloration on the upper arms of the swastika of the NSDAP pin. That must be a photographic distoration since I can't see it at all when looking at the badge first-hand.

Hi Peter,

The space and hyphen position was also all over the map until these pins were standardized by the RZM in late 1934 / early 1935. They were all essentially private manufacture under license until then ("GES. GESCH."), and the farther back you go the more non-standard variations you'll find. I think you'll find some pre-RZM oddities in the long thread in this forum on party pin makers.

If this one had an RZM mark I'd have to say it would be considered a fake. As is, I lean towards it being OK, but I understand James' hesitation.

, will wrongfully use the criterias for the RZM-marked pieces as reference to authenticate these early ones.

Hope it helps. Of course there's nothing like holding a badge in your hand to "feel" if it's a good one.

A thought occurred to me - I've assumed that your NSDAP badge is the standard 24/25mm size. The minis - either 3/4, 2/3 or 1/2 sized ones - often show the characteristics of your badge.

i agree with Stephen on this though i give a nod to James' concerns....i feel both are original ...the early party pins could be all over the map....the value on the early party pins is pushing the 100.00 range these days though.....but due to the concerns with this piece you should be able to get for cheaper....

I don't have a metric caliper, but when held against a tape measure the party pin appears to be just under 23 mm. Is that a problem?
