Here is a more convincing version of the SS Gautag München tinnie (see post 19 for a very crude one).

But despite how good these may look, all of them are fake. This tinnie never existed in the Third Reich so they are nothing more than fantasy pieces made to suck money from the unsuspecting.

Here's one that I got burned on, when I first started collecting tinnies:

          Hi Andre,

Do you have a picture of the reverse? It actually looks pretty convincing from the front. A bit soft in detail, though, especially on the rampant lion.

          Best regards,
          Tom

Hi André, one of my favorite tinnies

I agree with Tom: detail looks weak from your distant picture but the metal (nickel alloy of some sort?) looks ok and overall detail is not much worse than mine (pictures attached: marked "Wernstein Jena" on the back) so it could just be a late strike with die wear or a piece from a different die. If you look around, they are others with weak detail so seing the reverse might help.

These were event badges intended to collect funds for the occasion and then put away as souvenirs or discarded but, as collectors we tend to view these litlle treasures a lot more critically than they were ever intended to be...

            Regards

              Hi JC,

Your example looks really nice. Here is one that I have, which is also marked to Hermann Wernstein of Jena.

              Best regards,
              Tom
