    Eagle order - opinions

I am slowly but surely attempting to regain interest in the hobby. Started as an excited newbie a few years ago but ended up getting 'star struck' by a big name in the bussiness which led to me backing the wrong horse and ending up with burnt fingers. Like John Snow, I also appeared to know nothing!

Now, about three years after this fiasco I am starting to slowly get my taste back for the great items and their history. But first I need to do some damage control on my collection.

Therefore I would greatly appreciate some honest opinions regarding this piece. If it fake I would like to know about it.

There is no maker mark on the side of the item as found on so many of these. There has been some haphazard repair to the enamel around the swaztikas and some enamel damage to the rear of the item.

The eagles seem to look right to me.

    Fingers crossed!

Whether part of your New Year's resolutions or not, you are taking the right approach. I believe every collector has experience to some extent with hasty purchases in the early collecting days, naively trusting the seller and therefore either paying too much or even ending up with a fake.

When you do a search on this forum, you can find many genuine pieces pictured. Here is a recent example.

I am confident the experts will contribute their assessments. Comparing the pictures, I believe yours to not be a genuine piece, unfortunately.

      Thank for your reply!

It is exactly because of pictures like those that I want opinions on it. And then add to that who the seller was... BUT having made a reasonable investment in it, I do want to exhaust every available source of information before flicking it in the bin.

I would greatly appreciate if some of the Eagle Order collectors on the forum jump in with their opinions as well.

Sorry mate, that's not an original DAO The ribbon is not correct, the outer black stripe should be the 50% wider than the two thin white stripes and the cross appears to be cast. Check out other crosses on this forum and it ought to be evident.

          cheers

I don't like it...I have a 1st Class version, made by Godet, and the quality of the order you posted is nowhere near consistent to mine, in terms of quality. Which dealer did you buy it from?

Agree; it looks like a casting with the expected loss of detail. Also, compare the line up of the swastikas to the posted original--they should all be square and the bars parallel to each other.

Thanks guys. Not great to hear but been expecting it. Guess I clung on the fact that no one would have you over at their house, pretend to be a teacher and then still rip you of off after you flew halfway around the planet to visit.

This is the second piece so far that has turned out to be rubbish. Lesson learnt and backed the wrong horse. But yeah got warned and did not listen so all my own fault.

But this remains a great hobby so now on to better things!
