    What became of this colleague?

He was at one time very active here, and has not been active in almost 2 years..

Indeed an interesting question. However I have seen more cases from very active members who suddenly dissapear..

James has moved from his home in California to the Midwest to be nearer his daughter if memory serves. Like many others, he was put off by all of the acrimony which has made its way onto this forum. A real shame as he put quite a large effort into this forum. A real Gent no doubt. Robert

I'm always sorry to see this happen...and just as sorry when someone 'acts out' here on the Forums. There is never an excuse for harsh words or statements that demean another collector here; there is never any good that can come from such ill-mannered actions. Whenever we lose a member in good standing who has participated and brought new knowledge and depth to our discussions, we all suffer by having the possibility of learning something about our revered hobby that we hadn't known before taken away from us. And I say this as a collector who has been studying and collecting for over 50 years, and I regularly learn something I hadn't known before right here. How do such antics benefit either us or the individual who causes the offense?

We hear complaints regularly that there are fewer and fewer new collectors coming up nowadays. If that is so, how can it encourage a new collector to broaden his study fields if he is scolded or demeaned because he asks a question...even a question that has been asked numerous times in the past? No one asks for information that he already knows; that would be a waste of his time. And yet we see examples of such aggressive attitudes far from infrequently.

Having been on the receiving end of a few such comments over the years myself, I can personally attest to how it feels...and it does NOT encourage further participation here!

May the coming New Year bring us each a will to welcome and to more joyfully share the vast knowledge that is possessed right here!

A MOD may know, he was the MOD of this section for a long time, and then suddenly wasn't...

If we are going to speculate here on what the reasons are/were - as it seems - then let me get my scenario in before the years out.

Maybe he got a job with NASA and found a way to get a human being through the Van Allen`s belt - took the "one small step" tearjerker show-line and left. Quite possibly living like a King as we speak on a distant planet.
