    SA sports badge genral question.

Were there any variations that were not maker marked? I recently acquired one that does not appear to have a maker mark like one's you commonly see. Thanks for the help!

    Hi Chevy,

Having studied and collected these badges for perhaps 50 years, I have never seen one without any maker's mark or RZM logo and License Code Number. Would you kindly provide some photos of the piece in your collection?

    Many thanks,

    Br. James

            Hi Chevy,

Thanks for your response and the photos of your badge. RZM M1/100 was the License Number of the Werner Redo firm of Saarlautern, one of the most commonly-seen of the manufacturers of this badge design. This is a Third Issue SA Military Defense Badge -- the award name was changed from the SA Sport Badge to this name for the wartime version of this badge -- and it is a Bronze Grade example. Only the late war version of this badge appeared with just the RZM License Code instead of the name of the manufacturer and the text which was included on the reverse of the sword on the earlier version of this badge: "Eigentum D. Obersten SA Führung" (Property of the SA Supreme Command).

Hope this is helpful to you. Enjoy your collection!

            Br. James

                SA sports badge genral question

                Hi:

I have many SA Sports Badges that are highly marked because I like them. Years ago, I saw a silver Sports Badge w/o any markings...and I couldn't resist buying it and it's in my collection.

I'll post pictures of it since I can't find where I posted it on this website years ago. After I posted it, someone offered to buy it right away....but I didn't accept the offer due to it's oddity.

I like your RZM marked SA Sports Badge...I don't own one yet

                    Hi Edelweisse,

The photo I'd like to see is the reverse of your badge with the pin in the 'open' position.

                    Cheers,

                    Br. James

Per your request....I hope these provide the detail you need. I have never weighed it....since people also get into that....I was thinking a "Private purchase" item from a clothing shop.

Better front picture and comparison picture.

I didn't want to hi-jack the initial topic but we're still learning and this site is all about sharing.

Thanks for the photo with pin open, Edelweisse. I can only comment that, were I to see this piece on a dealer's table, I would pass it by. To my knowledge and experience, all such political achievement badges had to have the legitimizing maker's mark or the manufacturer's RZM Code Number to qualify to be awarded or sold as a private purchase copy of the badge.

                            With thanks again,

                            Br. James

Thanks Br. James for your option...don't be too quick to judge. I'm happy with it and I guess that's all that matters since I'm not tyring to sell it. It's just sitting in my collection.

Items are still being discovered in WWII vet's footlockers sitting in attics and basements that SMEs "thought" were bad. Of course there are those SMEs that "push" a bad item strictly for financial gain. We're still learning. It happened to me...that I passed on an item only to learn later that I shouldn't have. Oh well! Hind sight is 20-20....

                              Again....Thanks for your comment.
