    Joe,
I've found maybe 3 or 4 with the safety pin still there direct from private/family sources. Yes I think it was issued with a safety pin, but any period pin would do the trick. I wouldn't add one if there wasn't in the first place as will put holes in the ribbon, but I have added a period one to a ribbon missing pin but with pin holes, thanks to Stan our friend who supplied that to me some years ago as a replacement pin.

      Joe,

have you ever seen a 2nd model with "factory supplied" pin? I would be really interested because I´ve never seen something like that.

I always thought that some were privately supplied in a quite better quality, nearly professional - but privatly.

      Best Regards

I enjoy seeing the unique and unorthodox attachments that were used on BOs by recipients such as BO # 636 for example that is pictured in the FHH Display thread using a hook and eye attachment.

I purchased my Dobek BO off Hermann Historica some years ago along with several award and promotion documents, and his final letter to his wife before dying fighting partisans in Italy. The second model BO came cased with his Urkunde in the leather folder.

The ribbons were creased at their folds and appeared unused to me. Both had the safety pin sewn with red thread in the same manner. One was mounted on the BO, the other folded and placed in the area above the medal.

The pins were identical with the imprint of the deer head on the flat side of the catch. I assume that the BO and Urkunde were delivered to Dobek on the date indicated on his party card for his award: 31.10.39. Although the "Patzwall" list carries Dobek with the date 10.8.39, one must remember that those lists were only official lists of recommendation (Vorschlagsliste) and not actual dates of the award. Can one assume all on the recommendation lists were awarded Blood Orders? Doed Patzwall assumes this?

At that time, Dobek was stationed in Vienna where he was assigned to Pol-Gen Retzlaff, the IdO Wien. I must presume the cased BO and document remained at this home in Wien, for in all the photos I have of him, he only wears the triangular BO ribbon on his right breast pocket flap. That includes during his service in Vienna, with the SS-Pol Mtn Rgt 18 and the SS-Pol. Btl. Bozen, where he commanded the third batallion, one of the companies of which suffered the partisan bomb attack in Rome on the Via Rassela.

The triangular BO ribbon remained on his tunic I presume, and buried with him after this death in July 1944. Several presumptions I admit, but I believe reasonable.
