    Gausieger 1938-correct or fake?

I am a self-confessed wet-behind-the-ears newbie that would like to know if this award is genuine or a fake. I have read many posts on Wehrmacht Awards re: the gausieger, but I'm still not really able determine whether it is correct or a known fake. If it is correct, I would be very interested to know its approximate value. Not sure if I will succeed at this picture insertion business, but here goes....

Thanks very much for your help.

Not too good with the image inserts

Let's try the reverse side now...

Nice one. 450 $ maybe a fair price for this badge.

It's a well known reproduction unfortunately.

            cheers

Well known? I admit that I'm worried about the sunken enamel in the swastika and the form of the eagle's beak But the rest looks pretty close to an original.

                Yes, well known.
Leaves, eagle's neck, catch, maker's mark, burnishing, enamel, base metal, digits- all those aspects of the piece in question are different than on originals. In fact, probably the only part that matches is the outline.
Those fakes have been around for at least a decade.

                  Thank you

Thank you, gentlemen. Your discussion confirms my feeling of concern and I think I must pass on this piece.

The differences you pointed out Matthew were only discernible to me when I put the two images side by side and even then it wasn't easy to see. I am clearly out of my depth here.

It's especially the eagle's head that is wrong. I noticed now that there is also a Reichssieger version of this fake.

                      siegers

Those reproductions come in all three grades including Kreissiegers. At least some have been sold cased.

                      cheers

only just saw this post dont know how i missed it originally, but as others have said its a fake, but i think the angle of the original pic is meant to deceive buyers as it hides the tell tale shape of the eagle head well, and could easily be missed if it wasnt for the other issues
