    Gold part pins?

I would like to add a set of Gold party pins to my collection and I was wandering if there is a list out there that has the names of all the recipients so that when I find one I can see who it belonged to?

Also if any one out there has any they would part with for a reasonable price please PM me.

    Hi Gunny,

The short answer to the first part of your posting is "No, there is no single comprehensive list of NSDAP Membership Numbers associated with the Gold Party Badge." A number of scholars, historians and researchers here on WAF have maintained lists over the years -- myself included -- but there is no one single source to be easily checked when questioning a particular number. Then comes the issue of whether or not the badge or badges themselves are genuine, since there are many reproductions and fakes out there on the market today.

If/when you find a GPB of interest, you are welcome to post a note here and you will receive responses as to whether individual historians have identified that number. You can also post photos of the piece you are considering, in order to receive responses/opinions as to its originality.

GPBs do come available on a regular basis; it's best to keep an eye on several of the dealer's sites and watch for a single badge or a matched set to appear. You can count on spending a goodly sum of money on a single badge, more on a badge that has been identified, a very goodly sum on a matched set, and a VERY goodly sum on an ID'd set!

In the meanwhile, I would suggest that you familiarize yourself with our colleague Stephen's excellent website at

    interlog.com/~sjl/GPB/index.html

so that, when you do see something that catches your eye, you will be able to objectively decide for yourself as to its possibilities.

Best of luck, and Happy Hunting,

    Br. James

It's guessed that only 10%-20% of the about 23,000 GPBs have been identified from a few sources, mostly the SS Dienstaltersliste. Individual numbers can sometimes be researched from the NSDAP archives by a couple of professional researchers.

There are some pretty good fakes out there now. Pre-post photos of any you are interested in before you buy. $800-$2000 is a lot to risk on a dodgy badge.

Of course, you'd always have the option to buy an attributed set.
