    A) 1932 HJ Potsdam - Ferdinand Hoffstätter Gold Version

    B) 1932 HJ Potsdam - Ferdinand Hoffstätter Bronze version

Below I have posted Gold and Bronze versions side by side for comparrison.

"SURELY THERE ISN'T A GOLD VERSION"

As I am sure that the the majority of WAF members are already aware the Potsdam Badge was Instituted in 1932 for all participants of the 1st NS- Reichjugendtag in Postdam held on the 2nd October 1932. The Potsdam Badge been produced for the actual event before been elevated to the status of Ehrenzeichen of the NSDAP.
As far as I can determine there is no period Documentation to confirm that the Badge for the actual Event was produced in Gold, sliver and Bronze. However from my point of view most Badges produced for the actual events (before been elevated to honor status) were produced in Gold, silver and Bronze and one can only discover this for onself after actually handling in hand numerous Period conference Meeting/Rally Badges.

Given that there is no evidence I do not believe that a Gold version ever existed. I think that your example is just a particularly well preserved bronze version, or a bronze with a slightly different wash to the norm.

The 'gold' finish on your example does not resemble that on a 'gold' SA sports badge for example.

Hello John, fair comment albeit there is no significant 'Documented' evidence that Gold versions of Event Badges existed for other NSDAP Events (yet they do) as we know Gold versions do exist for numerous other events, for example I have numerous examples of SA Badges in Gold Silver and Bronze.
I is worth metioning that the example I posted has had a clear lacquer applied to the finish, however under the eye loupe it is definately a Gold finish that appears to be a Period finish.
It is not my intention to change your views...... however in my opinion the Badge that I posted is not Bronze.
        Best regards Martin
PS I have just checked the Photograph and can agree with you that it does not appear the typical Gold finish one would expect to see on a Gold Badge, non the less in hand the Badge has a very defined gold finish. I will take a few more Pictures as soon as lighting improves.
