Opinions on Volkswagen Stickpin

Received this in the mail today. Marked Ges Gesch on reverse, 100000 kilometer on obverse (that's a long run! )

Any thoughts on originality, and if real, value?

I've got one of these pins too and consider them to be reproductions. Weren't a lot of commercial VW's that had the chance to go 100,000 Kilos before WW2 kicked off and petrol was closely rationed after that. The construction of the pin is not right either, as I've never seen an original that had the stamped square area where the makers mark is located. A lot of fakes have that trait, but none of the originals that I've seen.

One last question...

Did stuff from 70's and 80's still have Ges. Gesch. on them???

I don't see why not. Ges Gesch is the German mark for 'patent pending'

I think these were made about 7-8 years ago in the US along with sevral other WW2 VW items....................Paul

Hi Fella's......

......back in the 70's, when the first phony gasoline shortage was staged in the U.S., these pins were very popular with the nerds that liked to think they were farther ahead along the curve than everyone else, when it came to spending less time in the long gasoline lines of those days.

You could buy them in liquor stores, auto parts stores and yes, in petrol staions too. There was quite a large variety of them......hell I had a Bug, but I thought those pins were hilarious.

We called the numbered ones MacVolkswagen pins.

There exist Mercedes pins that were given to truckdrivers (most times) who reached the 100.000, 200.000 km and even more km. They are 835 silver and gilded. I presume they are postwar.
