Hello All - I have done a search on Volkswagen and Grundsteinlegung and about the only thing I can conclude is that no one has yet come up with an original. Seems the vertical pins are considered fakes. Here is one without a pin but it was horizontal. Seems to have a chance.

Thanks Pete - I did look at that thread but sometimes these get into he said/she said and I lose interest. Totally overlooked the fact that there was a purported good one in there.

Apparantly the original badge is made of a very light metal or some say Bakelite? (1.9 gr.)
I only have the old aluminium fake with the Aurich trade mark on the reverse

Sadly there are countless different fakes on the market place of this particular Badge (even the ones marked Hermann Aurich ! ) Period authentic originals are of zinc construction and as Pete already stated are very light. Below you can see an original example which I was very fortunate to acquire a few Years back

PS Pete your 100% correct the Hermann Aurich ones are fake, however the Mayer marked examples are period

Hello Curt, yes one has to be careful with certain tinnies as it can be like a total mine Field, as you know some of the fakes are designed to deceive, especially the Hermann Aurich example which has duped many Collectors.
