    SA Sports badge ?

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to this board as my main collecting area is Iron Crosses and documents but I've been after an SA Sports badge recently to complete a little project I've been putting together.
I've found this SA Sports badge with a low number.
I have done my research and spent most of yesterday going over all the SA Sports badges threads on here and it looks good to me but I have a couple reservations which are -
The pin seems to be longer than on other examples I have seen
The stamped number seems very feint compared to the usual very bold stamping on other SA Sports badges
The positioning of the stamped number on the sword rather than the reverse of the surrounding oak leaves also doesn't seem typical

Here's the pics. Can anyone offer their opinions on this badge please ?

Not so rare but for the numbering stamped in this place. Tipical CHR. LAUER on the other hand

Thanks for the positive comments lads.

It seems to closely resemble the badge in this thread from post 5 onwards (except for the gold finish)

I wonder whether this is a Gold badge. The number is very low either way but esp for a Bronze. There appears to be gold traces on the reverse.

            Hi Yeoman,

I agree that this is a rare variant, as regards the number placement and font on the reverse, but I don't think it's a Gold Class piece. It is a 1st Issue of this award, which means it comes from 1934-35, and the finish has suffered the years on both sides, and especially on the obverse, but I believe this to be a Bronze Class piece.

Again, a very interesting piece, for those who collect SA Sport Badges! Cheers,

            Br. James
