thanks for the picture,most collectors that i know are the same way,they dont collect them but have a few sitting in a box.Im trying to find out when the last coins were minted.I have a few from 1944 but ive never seen any 1945 dated coins.Even the 1944 dated coins seem fairly uncommon.

I believe you are right on the money - most of us have some coins and notes - I haven't checked the dates on them recently and I don't remember - I believe most were in the late 30's which I have. I will look and let you know if I have any from the late wartime 40's...44 or 45.

Someone on this forum can probably tell you the answer of where to look for it - I would also be interested in the answer for general knowledge.

According to the 2000 Standard Catalog of World Coints, coins were minted in 1945 too.

thanks for the information,does the book mention if all the mints produced coins in 1945?

The coins were minted into 1945 with the swastika on it. You can also find some of the same coins from 1945 withot the swastika and it was produced by the Allied Government up to 1947 I believe. Coins look alike. Including in this no swastika look alike are the Reichspfenning, 5 Reichsphenning, 10 Reichspfenning and maybe others. These coins are rare and bring a good price if ya see one cheap grab it!! Mike

After Germany lost the war, an entire nation was stuck with Reichmarks...did they just cash these in for post war money? I am sure there were many people who got rich from the war, but there were also many who were regular business people making a living. Were they treated any differently? Was the money just traded 1:1, or what? How long did they have to cash in their Reichmarks before they became worthless?

thanks for the added information,I also wonder about the currency situation after the war,as you mentioned im sure there were people who got rich because of it ie looting or whatever.I know people hid stuff away for years,I know a gentleman(Dutch) who only last year offered some 8,000 2 mark coins for sale at $2 a piece.even at that price thats 16,000 dollars!were did he get 8,000 coins?how many other bags of coins did he have or have access to??who knows ...makes you wonder who else came up on lots of money right after the war!
