Not my hometown, but between 1973-76 I was stationed and lived in Bad Kreuznach. I knew that a large part of my ancestors came from Germany on both sides of my family. When I got back home, I got even more serious than before about family history research. I discovered that part of my family came from Rheinland-Pfalz, only somewhere about 12k or so from where I lived while in Germany. I wish I had known that when I was there, I would have tried to find some distant relatives. I think they were actually from places near your hometown.

I think they are small places, probably not very rich or on the beaten path, so to speak, because a lot of my family were just simple people....farmers and such.....even though a few of my ancestors were knights, both German and British, and others were Dutch naval people. The German villages near where I was stationed are Boos, Desloch and Oberhausen and some of the names of my ancestors were Bischoff (later changed to Bishop in America), Franz, Franzmann and Rauch. There are many others from many other places in Germany as well such as Zweibrucken; Kochendorf, Neckar, Wurttemberg; Duhren, Heidelberg, Baden; and even Ertzlingen, Zurich, Switzerland. There are also a lot from Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. By now it should be clear......I am a true "Heinz 57 variety American", and full of internal conflict because I think at one time or another many of my ancestors have fought each other .

I sure would like to have known what I later found out.....I would have tried to see if I could find any cousins about 2000th ones maybe.
