    GAU Thuringen Badge?

Hi, I've been offered this badge & was wondering if someone from this great forum could help me determine its authenticity? Please..
Not a big GAU badge collector.

    Best,

This should be in the political section.

Use the search function. There are a number of threads on this badge.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I searched the forum & read several threads already. The badge looks well made to me, the marked number area seems a bit rough though.. I see a small amount of tooling by the 800 mark?

RZM, from the pics, your badge looks to be crudely made and IMO doesn't fit the criteria or traits that I expect to see on original badges.

Whether repro or original, the badge has definitely been "worked over" on the reverse where the number is in the arm of the swaz. This is also very apparent from the obverse as well.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your opinions. It's not my badge. I agree does look worked over around the number. In the other threads some of the badges shown are crisper in detail. Thanks again.

Someone has tried to alter the serial number IMO. The badge looks like mine in other respects.

I agree with Ron. It's missing the crisp details, maybe someone applied some tarnish to "preserve" it ?

                          Original, but distressed.

Thanks. I thought the same thing. The gentleman who offered it to me wanted $1200.00 for it. I noticed that in several of the threads that some people pay $2000+ Euro for them. Considering something happened with the numbers, I passed on it. If anyone is interested let me know.

                            Best,

I'm not certain that it's original. There are some details missing on the pictured badge but an in hand inspection is a must to know for sure. Think we all agree that we wouldn't want the badge for our collections.
