    Re: Manion's

Manion's website has been down since 1/6. At first, users were directed to the "list it yourself" auctions. Now a click on the Manion's website automatically brings up the "list it yourself," auctions.

Does anybody have any info as to what is going on with Manion's?

It sure looks like they are out of business.

    I received this email today:

Due to the website crash last week of www.manions.com we will be moving all of our offerings to www.listityourselfauctions.com for the foreseeable future.

www.listityourselfauctions.com is a full featured person to person marketplace where you can buy and sell collectibles only. Similar to eBay but without the restrictions and with lower fees.

manions.com customers will need to re-register on www.listityourselfauctions.com to utilize the site for both buying and selling.

If you have any problems, please contact us at collecting@manions.com

        Manions

Really to bad though. Back in the day, you could get some really good stuff from them, and always looked forward to their auction catalog. Oh well...

Right you are, Chris. I was a Manion's 'regular' for many years. Sad to see them in this current predicament. When Ron retired, the business seemed to have lost it's heart, focus and energy. So sad. Hope they can pull out of this situation...

I agree. I never sold anything on Manions, but did buy a few items years ago. I was very pleased. Too bad things had to head in this direction. I hope it is not too late for them to restore their reputation..

When Ron Manion (a collector long before he was a dealer) left the building, it was over.

I agree that it is far to late to salvage anything for them. I think its sad, I started using Manions in the late 70'2 when I was probably 10. I talked my parents into letting get a subscription. I remember those wonderful catologes! I had never seen so much militaria. I remember anticipation of getting that new catologe and ripping the paper off it and studying it for days. I still have a lot of those old catologes. Then they broke the sections up into separate catologes and the subscription prices went throught the roof. I stopped getting them sometime around when the covers went to color with the hudge displays. I just couldn't afford it as a teenager. When I rediscovered Manions years later online it was never the same. I bought some stuff that were obvious fakes when I got them and thankfully I was able to return them for a refund. (many years ago) Then I just ordered reference books from them, I figured I couldn't get beat to bad if I stuck to books off them. But if you bought a 20 dollar book it would end up costing you at least 50 or more when you factored in their B.S. Fees. I finally decided a couple years ago they weren't worth the trouble anymore.

Probably on the run if you read up about the 7 figure debt he left the new owner with

One can clearly see from comments posted here and previous posts that the contemptuous Attitude you showed towards me is apparantley shown on a regular basis to other Collegues. Such conduct is an absolute disgrace
Unless you can actually make a valid contribution to the forum perhaps you should refrain from such infantile derogative remarks.
And by the way I see from one of your earlier posts you don't even have a single tinnie to your name but now you are apparently an authortiy on the subject. I guess one can deduce from that that as the saying goes ............... empty vessels make most noise.

Regarding comments on my collection or anybody's for that matter for that matter if someone had a Library of 3000 Books which one had actually read all of the Books who would be in the best postion to enlighten one on the contents of the Books ........... The person who owned the Books and or the illiterate ?

Apologies to anyone who is offended by my comments towards this Individual ..........however those offended by his comments won't be offended my mine !!!!

ROWFL. Harding, you mean the attitude showed by MANIONS towards their customers, surely

Maybe you meant my attitude towards MANIONS? if so, then here is another thread for you to blow some steam off on, and rant to your hearts content..

Here are some articles on the subject. I knew ron from the many years at the la show, always trying to give me one of his cataloges, and I wouldn't take them for free...just didn't care to buy items that way, lucky I stayed with my gut feelings..

this list it yourself sounds pretty lazy, so this will likely become a clearing house for fakes like e bay is, or gunbrokers I suspect... but you decide for yourself...and the debt according to reports is over a million conservatively...I also read some where that jodi purchased the business for 1.00 and the hook was he had to be responsible for the debts from the past so ron could scoot..regardless we all feel for the guys who never were compensated.
