Hi Burnout,

I agree with Wim that this appears to be an original awarded example of the SA Sport Badge in Bronze, 1st Issue...though it's had a hard life, given its condition! It's award number is indeed quite low as we see them nowadays. As to rarity, all grades of the 1st Issue of this award were in service for a very short period, March 1934 to January 1935 -- just ten months, before it was succeeded by the 2nd Issue badge, which served from February 1935 to December 1938 when that too was succeeded by the 3rd Issue badge from January 1939 till war's end.

A nice, early and collectible piece, to be sure.
