Yes, most likely German Communist 1920's-33. It's a generic type so interesting but not rare.

if this piece screams pre 33 KPD I must be deaf.

It's a hammer and sickle stick pin. Beyond that- impossible to attach any sort of factual pedigree to it. It could come from 1920's Germany or 1980's Albania.
