          Hi Ron,

Thanks for the kind words, but thats a very nice laurel wreath you show yourself. It reminds me of the wreath that the men are holding on the large shooting award i showed on the previous page (more on that here: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=645717 ) and which shows that the ideas behind the awards and items are not just random wild designs but well thought out. Really interesting.

          beat regards,
          Gaston

            Sport and the Third Reich

I am glad to see that there are others out there who are interested in sport related items of the Third Reich. The collecting opportunities in this arena are vast. I collect sport uniforms and insignia. My collection was displayed at the MAX last year. Pictures of the display are on WAF--search "MAX Show Seminar" or my last name--Newbrough if you want to see them. I wrote a two volume book on the topic: "Sport and the Third Reich". I will post some pics of the book so that you can see what I am referring to. Happy hunting!

                Sport and the Third Reich

More pics. I tried to cover as many topics as possible; however, I learn new things every day about this topic. So, a third volume may be needed.

                    Dear Rob,

Thanks for joining this topic and reminding us of your books. Im a bit ashamed to admit they are still on my (way too long) wish list. These sample pages look very good though, let's see if i can convince someone here that they would make a nice Christmaspresent.

                    best regards,
                    Gaston

                      Hi Gents,

Some beautiful items displayed on this thread, and Rob's books look stunning too!
Have a few sports related items in my collection, but nothing of any significance.
Understand that even the more common cloth sports badges are now being copied in great numbers; anither blow to our hobby.
Seems almost everything is being tarnished by forgers these days!

                      Best wishes,

                      John.

I belive that the metal oakleafs were suposed to be handed in to a juvelier when a sufficient amount were won and then mounted in to a complete wreath.

I have somewhere a comercial from a juvelier or workshop, offering this type of mounting. Also I remember Detlev Niemann once selling such a complete and named wreath, it was realy fantastic.
