Hello, without a doubt your Badge is a period original. There are numerous variations of this particular Badge that are the exact same shape, size and outer frame work design as your example. I believe your Badge is for the Armed forces Home reserves. Other examples exist for the Air Artillery, Labour services, Cavalry and Artillery. To my knowledge there are at least 12 that exist with the identical outer Design.
The quality of these Badges is lacking some what as period originals are made from a cheap tin metal
You may be interested to know that reference and a hand sketched Picture of this Badge can be found on page 100 of the Book Insignia, Decorations and Badges of the Third Reich and Occupied Countries. The Author of the Book Rudolf Kahl was a remarkable man as he actually hand Pencil sketched all the Awards, Medals & Insignia featured in his Book. Rudolf Kahl published other Books that concentrate specifically on the SS, SA, HJ, NSFK & NSKK
