HJ Sports Award - Gebietmeisterschaft - Opinions Please!

    Hi Everybody,

This landed in my lap a couple of days ago and I can't make my mind up about it.

It's a cased HJ Sports Award (Table Medal) for 1st Place in Running at Territorial Championships level, 1941.

As I said though, I can't make my mind up about it.

Firstly, the case is in exceptional condition.

Secondly, the surface of the medal, although nicely patinated, is, upon examination with a loupe, pitted (both obverse and reverse).

I have also just noticed that there appears to be a seam running around much of the medal perimeter.

    Signs of casting?

Another thing that struck me as odd, was the lack of a name on the reverse of the medal.

Anyway, all of the above got me wondering whether this was a known fake that I was blissfully unaware of, or, a poorly produced wartime medal, with a case in mint condition. Hmmn!

    So, all opinions warmly welcomed.

    Thanks and all the best,
    Toby.

And a closer shot still, showing some of the pitting (look at the HJ diamond):

And the reverse (note the faults in the inscription):

          Hi Toby,
the medal itself i don`t have a problem with (not includung the inscription = knowlege defict) as for the case, may be it was just put away in a draw ?? after being awarded if the recpient joined up ?

            Hi Ashley,

Many thanks for replying. Maybe I was just being overly doubtful.

I had initially thought it would be a strange choice for a faker but then who knows how their minds work. Also, the market isn't exactly flooded with these.

            All the best,
            Toby.

                    John, Silgemnumi,

Thanks for replying. Good to have additional confirmation.

@ Silgemnumi - thanks for posting the images of yours. Very interesting. Plus, I notice yours all have place names on them, Graz, etc.

                    All the best,
                    Toby.
