Hi Everybody,
This landed in my lap a couple of days ago and I can't make my mind up about it.
It's a cased HJ Sports Award (Table Medal) for 1st Place in Running at Territorial Championships level, 1941.
As I said though, I can't make my mind up about it.
Firstly, the case is in exceptional condition.
Secondly, the surface of the medal, although nicely patinated, is, upon examination with a loupe, pitted (both obverse and reverse).
I have also just noticed that there appears to be a seam running around much of the medal perimeter.
Signs of casting?
Another thing that struck me as odd, was the lack of a name on the reverse of the medal.
Anyway, all of the above got me wondering whether this was a known fake that I was blissfully unaware of, or, a poorly produced wartime medal, with a case in mint condition. Hmmn!
So, all opinions warmly welcomed.
Thanks and all the best,
Toby.
