Potsdam Badge 1932 Hofstatter?

What do you make of this? The hofstatter is in a different place to what I am used to.

I've never seen one of these in aluminum before. All I have seen to date were of a heavier tombac like material. That doesn't mean they dont'exist in aluminum, but I would wonder why Hoffstätter would make them in different metals?

I don't know, maybe a variation and they were just using up whatever metal they had lying around in the yard, but I've just seen an identical one on weitze, I'm inclined to think it's ok.

tin, tombak, alloy- what's the diff?

Die characteristics are spot on with other genuine examples. Although not as common as their tombak counterparts those alloy Hoffstatter pins show up once a while. As to why alloy- maybe ole' Lorenz produced those on a Monday's early morning shift along with alloy-made 1929 pins completely forgetting that the bulk of both was stamped out of tombak?
