    Small Gau Baden in Silver

    Currently flying over from US, my newest addition- Gau Baden in Silver for women.
    Retains most of the original frosting, really hard to find award- for your viewing pleasure.
    Any more of those little guys out there? Please share yours.

    You have plenty of good stuff - many thanks for sharing.
    As for the gau badges, I'm not an expert in these but like fine wine, it takes a lot to appreciate the finer side of these things - its history and significance, as well as the craftsman's skill and detailing. You have deep pockets!

      But as rare as those pins are you either grab them when they surface or be prepared to look for a long time to find them again.

        This one(which is very nice by the way), since its a womens badge, is likely why it has the barrel catch to prevent it from coming undone...is this the common catch found on all of this type badge , as this type catch ,is many times found on good jewelry ,and, as I have never encountered one yet it would be good to know if one crosses our paths down the road.?? Looks like , so far, not any more posted...hope to see some other examples .

          womens gau baden

          So far only one manufacturer of those badges is known and it seems that all of those pins left the factory with the pin/catch attachment as pictured above. Unless one has been modified later on I would be very cautious about any different attachment method used on those pins.
          Very good fakes of those have been produced in the 80's. Unfortunately for collectors one thing they were able to reproduce quite accurately is the hardware. Fortunately the front is rather crude and relatively easy to recognize once one is familiar with the characteristics of the real ones. There was also no serious attempt at burnishing on the fake pieces other than wiping the frosting from the high points of the award.
          It would seem that there is also a gold version of the same award although I have not had the pleasure of examining it myself yet. It's been said it is of identical construction but gilded rather than silvered.
          I believe similar style hardware has been used on another Gau award- Gau Danzig or at least one of the variations.
