another what the heck is it

About 51 mm x 41 mm. fairly crude cast. The only thing similar I found was on the web in a dealer's tinnie section, called a "Colonial Military Men in 16th Century Uniforms", which looked die struck. Can anyone fill in the blanks on this for me? What is it and what does it represent? Appreciate it.

Looks like someone poured metal over a badge, forming a lousy 'sunken relief' thing and soldered a pin on back.

      Wow?

This is an image of Rembrandt's famous painting De Nachtwacht ("The Nightwatch").

In the Netherlands at the end of the 1920's, early 1930's a series of brooches were made with this image, they are quite neat but not many collectors for them and they only have a VERY vague link to our militariahobby. Actually the only link i ever found is that SOME dutch NSB women might have worn them as a sign of patriotism, but this si really a far sought link.

These civilian original brooches can be picked up every now and then for a few euro's and they look quite good. This one looks really terrible. I have to look up an Original but would almost shout: fake!

      best regards,
      Gaston

and after a quick search through my files:

Here's two brooches, you'll recognise the first one. Although it's quite a small picture you can see it has much crisper details.

I have no reverse 'photo's but both had the same pins on the reverse that can also be found on for example the German well known true dienste medals (25,40 and 50 years crosses).

The second brooch in same style is from a painting from another famous dutch painter: Jan Steen. It's from his very well known painting: "zoals de oude zongen, piepen de jongen", no idea how to translate this as it's a very old dutch expression but literally it says: "as the old sang, the young will squeak".

Looking at yours againi imm not so sure anymore they are from the same series, but still, your's looks in very bad condition and i can't imagine it is/was an original piece of jewelry in that condition.

          best regards,
          Gaston

Appreciate the info, guys. It can go into the big 'curiosity' drawer (aka "the bin")
