Not for ballooning, never been too sure what this is for though, I think it covered a number of sins, given out/awarded at a local level, I believe.

            hi,

here's a little piece i typed at another form:

The Führer Plaque. This was an officially recognized non-portable award. Many collectors think it was "just" another WW2 plaque, but this is not true. The plaque's are known to be made of bronze and some of an inferior painted material, possibly iron. The weight is quite considerable and their measurements are 95 mm bij 141 mm. The plaques have been designed by famous German designer Heinrich Mosage. The abbreviation on the lower right of Hitler's image, "HM", is his trademark and can be found on most of his (other) designed art and awards. Many people still don't know that it was Mosage who designed these plaque's. Originally the plaque's were awarded in a hardcover and quite large and luxuary case, with a seperate "bed" for the plaque to rest in. The reverse of the plaque is hollow and has a very distinctive hook for display purposes, to make it possible to hang it for example on a wall. Makers of the plaques were at least "F. Vogel, W. Barmen" and "Adolf Trumpf from Hannover", it is possble that one or two more makers made them. The plaques were largely presented to middle-ranking political and state officials in recognition of special achievement. On the reverses of the plaque can be found the following saying: "Erste vom Fuhrer und der Reichsleitung fur sehr gut befundene, nach naturstudien gearbeitete plakette, In offizielen vertrieb der zeugmeistereien". Some variations don't have the last part added (the "In offizielen vertrieb der zeugmeistereien" part). According to Angolia this was possibly the matter with plaque's that were handed out by certain German cities, that also handed them out as special honour prizes. These city-plaques sometimes have a special inscription. For this was as well on the obverse as on the reverse space, mostly this was used for thanking the official recipient for his duties. Not all plaques have an inscription though and this is one of the reason's for the many variations that can be found.

            Gaston
