Great SA Treffen Photo.....

This came in with a group of other photos & thought I'd share it with all of you.

Nice big photo (approx 7" by 5"), showing a salty old Heer NCO & veteran of the Eastern Front, wearing the 1931 SA Treffen Braunschweig Badge.

I haven't come across this very often on later war combat uniforms & thought it was interesting.

What do you guys think.

There's a good likelihood that he was an SA officer who subsequently joined the army. Many SA and HJ officers joined, saw active duty or trained soldiers in the field, and then returned to the SA to reach a higher rank.
You're right--it's not very often that you see the Treffen badge on a military uniform in a photo!

That makes sense Erich.

I was particularly intrigued because of the Ost buttonhole ribbon, yet no other combat awards. I suppose he could have been in the rear in a supply or training role as you suggest.

Very nice photo Laurens.

It also appears he has the NSDAP 10 Year Long Service ribbon in last place on his bar. Not to common to find this on a combat soldier either!
