    Reichsverband Der Wirtschaftsleiter(VELA) member badge

    Hello all,

Does anyone know anything about these stickpins, are they authentic?

Believe this translates to “Organization of Restaurant Officials in the Third Reich.” Making the restaurants of Germany clean, hospitable, comparative, and socially acceptable was a prime objective of the NSDAP, and this organization was given this task. The stickpin is quite nice looking in black, red, and white enamel with an odd-looking apparatus in the center of the white swastika. The name of the organization is seen along the edges. The maker’s name appears on the back as ‘Robneff Berlin W-57.’

Any help on this Rob Neff stickpin would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, it has nothing to do with restaurants: "Wirtschaft", in this context, means "economy".

Founded in 1918, the Vela was the Vereinigung der leitenden Angestellten in Handel und Industrie [roughly: "Association of Executives in Trade and Industry].

The original name "Vela" was later expanded to include the addition of Reichsverband der Wirtschaftsleiter [roughly: National Association of Economy Managers"].

That's correct No restaurant, pub or whatever, but economy.
The symbol is a sailing ship!

Does anyone know why they used a ship to represent this organization? Could it be referring to the ships used in international trade?
I also noticed that on the front of the ship are the letters VELA. You can't make it out on most examples that I have seen but you can on the example in post #2.

I realize it's almost impossible to produce badges with identical obverse design, but how many different reverse designs are considered plausible, as well as pin-versions? Not counting William's, we have here 3 different types of knurls from the same producer! Btw, mine is concave.

                  cheers
