    What is it??????

Brought this back from Germany and have a couple of questions about it. It appears to be a sports related plaque for bowling. Has a maker or artist mark and eagle & swastika next to it. The back has a mark that I am wondering about. It is stamped Germany. Does that fit with the front marks and any clues as to what this was for>> Thank, Mike

        Hi Mike,

The mark on the front - the eagle and swastika, looks to me, like the emblem of the NSRL - am I correct to think it says NSRL under the eagle? If so, then the NSRL is the Nationalsozialistischer Reichsbund fuer Leibesuebungen (Angolia, translates this as the National Socialist Physical Training League (Fuehrer & Fatherland Vol. 2). This would seem to fit in with the theme of bowling.

You say there's a mark on the reverse, and 'Germany'. Can you do a closer photo of this? It would seem odd if it actually has 'Germany' on the reverse. I could be mistaken but I was under the impression that this applied to items of post-war production, intended for export.

        Hope this helps.

        Best regards,
        Toby.

Many post war items for export were marked Germany.........I dont think any Third Reich items ever were.

which is why it seems strange if this has Germany on the reverse, and the NSRL eagle and swastika on the obverse.

here is the mark on the back--I have seen period porcelain pieces marked Germany. Seems odd that they would reproduce a piece like this--I don't have a clue> LOL Mike

Very odd indeed, and why would they export an item that would have no use in any country other then germany?

It is a generic Kegelbahn plaque, and I see no reason why it could not have been exported to retailers located in other countries. After all, the NSRL symbol is very tiny.
