SA Sports badge in silver? no 1758

    Hello Guys!

It's not my area but looks nice original - is it silver grade?
It is non magnetic and I think made from tombak.

I want to know your opinion about this one.

    Thanks & best regards
    Michal

I think you might be right. I've never had that maker or that type hinge and hook, but not saying it isn't a good one. Seems pretty early especially the number. Finish seems to have silver remaining , and to me even a good silver is a tough one to find. Most silvers seen here are too new looking and don't appear actually worn like this one does, and being faked as one of the most successful fakes made are certainly a minefield. Seems this wear on this silver would be consistant with earning such a sports award so early, and worn through the pre war years before combat and other awards were authorized. so for me , I like it and not afraid to give my gut feeling on it, even though i've never seen this attaching set up . I would snag it if i were you if you haven't already.

Can anyone elaborate on this makers pin and hook attachments for us to study further. I believe i only ever found one silver , and mine was worn as to finish, but the low number on this one makes it desirable.

Has there ever been any lists found ,as to names cross referenced to numbers on this badge for each grade of the award, or was this information lost ?
