SA Sports badge, Berg & Nolte... (gold?)

    Hi,

I've just received a large group of badges & before I offer the unwanted pieces on the estand, I thought that I'd check any items that are out of my collecting field first.

First a Berg & Nolte SA sports badge which looks to be gold. From what I've read in the last couple of days the high number makes that unlikely, is this true & is it original please?

    Thanks
    Don

Badge looks good to me not sure it,s gold though, i have also read
that any with a high number can,t be gold.

I agree with Mametz: the badge appears to be an original award example of the Second Issue SA Sport Badge, though I have learned not to take for granted what appears to be the Bronze, Silver OR Gold Grade of this badge based upon photos. Bronze Grade badges have appeared to be both the Silver and the Gold Grade, and vice-versa, depending upon the photo's lighting. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I'm inclined to say Bronze based upon the remaining finish in the lower recesses of the reverse of the leaves.

I believe the gold versions have a different sword base altogether that differentiates it.
