1934/35 Tag der Arbeit tinnies

I received these two Tag der Arbeit tinnies recently, both looks fine to me. But some opinions about them will be welcome.

I thought james noble should start a thread and show all the different makers marks of the 34's like the tag der arbeit pins he did for the 1935 badges. They are common but interesting when unusually marked ones happen to pop up.

You're correct, I don't had see too another from this maker before. I observed it conserved better it's original apearence than others I had see.

I think too it's a good idea to make a makers marks list from the 34's too.

Both nice pieces! I've enjoyed the Labor Day badges for many years, and especially the 1934 issue -- how often is 'Larry Fine' seen as commemorated in such badges!!

Does anyone happen to know who the relief bust on the 1934 Tag der Arbeit Badge is supposed to represent? Possibly a generic Aryan Man? Earlier I joked that it looked like Larry Fine of the Three Stooges, but in the clearer light of day, I really don't know who this person was supposed to be...and apparently most of the dealers who are offering examples of this badge for sale don't either. One actually wrote that the bust was of "a very ugly woman...!" It somewhat resembles the likeness of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, but Goethe was a humanist whose writings were included in the symbolic burning of the books in Berlin in May of 1933... Any hard evidence out there as to who this bust represents? Many thanks,

i have a 800 silver version of the 1934 tag badge in a small case.

Believe it or not ,the face on this badge is none other than DR, Robert Ley. Looks like he had a bad hair day. Ley was the leader of the labor corps....so tag der arbeit (labor day)does make sense. We also celebrate labor day, just a different one. Ill post mine as soon as i get where i can access them. The bad thing about these badges that seems common to many is the pins seemed to fall off, like they werent soldered well or the flux didnt work properly. So those with pins are always worth more if complete. They stack nicely if you have a few with pins missing, but they can be purchased still as low as 15.00 at times.
I saw an early photo recently in a book where many were wearing the 1934 badge , even ss men , I will look for that to show also.(later that is)

I have to wonder where you got the idea that Ley was the model for the bust on the '34 Labor Day Badge, juoneen; it doesn't look a bit like him to me! I guess Prof. Richard Klein, who designed this badge, might have come up with this after a weekend of boozing with Ley, but in the clear light of day...!! But seriously, I'd love to hear where this idea came from originally -- I have no wish to challenge your word, my friend, but it really looks nothing like Ley, and Klein was certainly an accomplished artist and designer. Perhaps you saw some period reference or an even later reference that would corroborate this idea? Many thanks,

Thanks for adding the portrait of Robert Ley to this discussion, juoneen...though it only serves to deepen my opinion that the head on the '34 Labor Day Badge is not his! IMHO, of course!
