NSDAP 10 Year - Opinions Please

Hi Everybody,

I recently took delivery of an NSDAP 10 Year Award. However, it is quite different from any I've seen before. It would appear to have some sort of silver base metal (it shows through on the highpoints where rubbed), which has been coated in a bronze finish.

However, the detail on the medal is quite rounded and not at all precise. Also, it would appear to be of three piece construction, and this puzzles me, given the overall quality of the award, which seems quite poor. There is also much deterioration to the finish, so much so, that staining can be seen on the carton where the medal has rested against it.

In searching the forum the only thing I could find of comparable quality was a ribbon bar with 10 year device.

I would very much appreciate your opinions on this one.

I know nothing of these medals but the overall quality probably would have turned me away.

Thanks for replying. I think you're right. The more I look at it, the more I wonder what happened to my eyesight when I first spotted it. Mindless optimism perhaps?

Long service

There are at least 2 different styles of party long service crosses, and this doesn't look like either. The detail of the wreath and eagle is very poor--I would send it back if you can.

Sorry Toby, this is a very poor quality casting. Even an orginal zinc one would not be showing a gilt color, as it would be totally wrong for this class of the award. Also, the box is for something else. The original one for the 10 year medal was brown with a gilt eagle on the top.

It looks like you're right. The bottom appeared silver in your original picture (and actually looks that way to some extent in your photo of the top, though it's just the funny way it scanned). The box is worth some fair money, so you might be able to negotiate a return where the seller doesn't have to cough up such a big refund and you end up with a box that will be easy to fill.

If the seller has any reputation at all, he should accept your request for return after you had it appraised in the same condition that you purchased it...
