Here is a photo of Elly Heuss-Knapp (the founder of the Müttergenesungswerkes) handing out the famous flower on the first Müttergenesungswerkes Müttertag event in 1950.

If you look closely you will see the same style label with the flower opening up with a baby in the bloom.

When I was in Germany in the 80s, I ran into one of the pre45 cans painted white that was on the counter of a restaurant. It was for Red Cross donations, or something similar.

              Hey guys,

This is pretty common...why crush these when they could be used for many, many years to come. Most didn't have any NSDAP insignia on them short of a label...just rip the label off and continue to use.

Most people do not realize that there were charitable drives for decades after the war ended...many of these cans were simply reused.

              All the best,
              Chrys

                Ron,
That's exactly what I remember it looking like--I think the Gau marking was the same as well.

I hope you left the donations when you took the can! Just kidding, of course. It does make a rather humorous idea for a cartoon, though--"Look at that, Hans! Someone left the money but stole the old can!" "Crazy American tourists!"
