M/1 Marked Tinnie

Have any of you guys seen the nice SA tinnie for sale now on e-stand and if so do any of you find it curious that it has an M1 designation on the reverse and not the M9 mark that is customary? Martin and Chris do you have any M1 marked day and rally badges in your respective collections? Any others have M1 marked pieces. I am just curious. The piece is fine. I am just curious about the M1. Hi Robert,

That's a very good question, and one for which I have no good answer. Looking at the RZM classifications, I note at least the possibility for inconsistency: M1 was for metal badges and insignia, while M9 was for festival and meeting badges. Taken at face value, I suppose a manufacturer could have considered this SA badge as falling under the category of "metal badges and insignia"...? It reminds me of an HJ belt buckle I bought many, many years ago. Years after I bought it I noticed that it was marked M5 (indicating manufacturers of uniform effects such as buttons, belt hooks, etc.) instead of the standard M4 for belt buckles. Ever since then I have assumed this belt buckle to be a phoney...but I guess it's possible to consider a belt buckle as a "uniform effect"...?? As you said, "curious!"

I too have this tinnie and it is marked exactly the same, never noticed it before your post Robert.
