The WHW (Winterhilfswerk) was an annual drive by the NSV (Vokswohlfart or Social Welfare Organization of the NSDAP) to help finance charitable work.
It ran from 1933-1945 during the months of October through March, and was designed to provide food, clothing, coal and other items to less fortunate Germans during the inclement months.
When a donation was given, a token, pin, or badge of some sort was given as a symbol of the donation.
